REBELS without Causes
Projected Budget
Investment: $3 Million
Recoup: First dollar repay plus 10 percent interest
Every couple of years, an R-rated film defies expectations and becomes a
huge blockbuster. Every couple of years, an indie film comes from
nowhere to become a smash hit. A couple of years from now, that huge
blockbuster smash hit will be "Rebels without Causes."
Rebels draws on the success of its predecessors. From "Rebel Without A
Cause," the storyline of teen angst and the pain of an abusive family.
From "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," the idea that an R-rated movie
can have a soul while being funny, zany and sexy. From "American Pie,"
the idea that a funny, zany, sexy, soulful movie can endure, make
hundreds of millions of dollars and inspire a franchise. Best of all, we believe
all this can be done for around $3 million dollars.
We have a huge amount of experience working on this project and a
great deal of vision. Jerry Offsay ran Showtime for ten years. Robert
Razavi has been a manager of amazing talent and an executive producer with
results. Bruce Gillies has a reputation as one of the best line producers in
the business. He specializes in independent film and brings films in on
time and under budget. Greg Klein has a vision for Rebels. Together, we
will make this movie a cult classic and summer blockbuster.
Our target audience is 17-34 year-old men with a secondary audience of
young women attracted to the male lead. Not only is this a desirable
demo, but it is a loyal, faithful audience. They will see the movie multiple
times, buy the sound track, buy the DVD, wait for the sequel and remember
Rebels favorably through adulthood.
We have the idea. We have the plan. Now we need investors. Fifty thousand
dollars will make a winning trailer. Three million makes an independent
film. A couple of million more brings in an A-list cast.
At this point, Bruce is working on a full shooting breakdown and budget
with a $3 million target and 25 shooting days. (We can always add above
the line costs for dream casting. Picture Zac Efron as Jamie, Katherine
Heigl as Kat!) The breakdown will be ready soon. In the meantime, this is
a rough sketch of what the money delivers.
